Learning in practice: Students from HS Osnabrück visit the St. Pauli high-rise bunker
As part of an excursion week, around 20 students from Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences visited the high-rise bunker in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district. On site, we provided them with exciting insights into an extraordinary construction project and the diverse requirements involved in its planning and implementation.
As part of its regularly scheduled excursion weeks, Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences traveled to Hamburg this year, making a stop at the high-rise bunker in St. Pauli. This extraordinary construction project gave participants the opportunity to explore a complex project directly on site and gain a sense of its many layers and challenges.
Our colleague guided the group along the “mountain path” up to the roof of the bunker, highlighting both the eventful history of the structure and the complex requirements involved in planning and executing the roof greening. Particular focus was placed on intelligent solutions for irrigation and drainage, as well as rainwater retention—set within the challenges of historic preservation and the building’s current use.
The direct exchange on site proved especially valuable: the students contributed their own perspectives and asked insightful questions. This dynamic is exactly what made the excursion so engaging for us—not a one-way presentation, but a dialogue through which we could also benefit from the perspectives and knowledge of future professionals.
We are pleased to have been able to provide an insight into our work and look forward to the next visit.
