The outdoor spaces at the Gebauer Höfe in Berlin-Charlottenburg were redesigned between 2019 and 2022 as part of a comprehensive neighbourhood regeneration project. The design was carried out by the firm hochC Landschaftsarchitekten on behalf of GSG Gewerbesiedlungs-Gesellschaft mbH. The aim was to transform the historic industrial site into a modern, commercial hub offering a high quality of life by the water – for tenants, guests and visitors alike.
Between the listed clinker brick façade and the banks of the Spree, versatile open spaces have been created, featuring outdoor dining areas, seating and green courtyards. Extensive pathways paved with large sawn cobblestones define the layout, whilst copses of trees and perennial beds provide green accents. The design combines robust materials with clean lines, creating transitions between publicly accessible areas and commercial use. The close integration of existing buildings, new developments and the water creates a distinctive place with a strong urban identity. The ‘Gebauer Goldband’ and the ‘Gründergeist’ are real eye-catchers that pay homage to the site’s history.
