Gustav Heinemann Secondary School

New construction of outdoor facilities with sports areas

As part of the new construction of the Gustav Heinemann High School in Berlin-Tempelhof, we were commissioned to build the extensive outdoor facilities.

The project

For the more than 1,200 students, a large entrance plaza was created in front of the school building, featuring a multi-format paving pattern with seating areas and bicycle parking spaces. An inner courtyard was designed as a Japanese garden using polygonal slate slabs. On the spacious school grounds, we installed gathering and recreational areas, play elements and walk-through art installations, youth-friendly seating under groves of trees, and a school garden with a greenhouse. In addition, outdoor areas designed for physical education were created, such as a beach volleyball court and a multifunctional playing field with synthetic turf and a ball-cage fence. Existing trees were integrated and enriched with new plantings featuring a diverse range of species.
