Panda enclosure at Berlin Zoo

Animal enclosures, waterfalls, artificial rock formations

In 2017, on behalf of Berlin Zoo, we were commissioned to design the outdoor enclosures for the panda exhibit at Berlin Zoo. Covering an area of around 4,000 m², we carried out the landscaping work based on plans drawn up by dan pearlman Erlebnisarchitektur. The project included both outdoor and indoor areas for the care of giant pandas.

The project

The landscaping work included the outdoor enclosures with artificial rock formations, watercourses, extensive plantings of solitary trees and bamboo, climbing structures, slides and swings for the pandas, as well as all fencing and wooden railings. In the indoor enclosures, artificial rocks and planting islands were created. The Visitor Plaza was developed as an access and leisure area, featuring elaborate granite elements, natural stone paving and Far Eastern-inspired features such as a red Chinese entrance gate and a pavilion.
