Rose Garden in Bielefeld

The historic Rosengarten in Bielefeld has been transformed into a climate-resilient city park that combines nature, recreation and modern urban design.

The project

We carried out work on an area of 14,000 m². A drainage system featuring retention basins and infiltration trenches was installed, fully in line with the ‘sponge city’ concept. New paths and a redesigned car park were paved with concrete pavers and grass pavers. A natural stone wall was erected and concrete blocks were used as seating. Wooden pergolas provide shade. A rose experience area was created using raised beds made of Corten steel. This was planted with insect-friendly roses and herbs. In total, over 8,500 perennials and around 50 newly planted flowering trees, such as ornamental cherries, magnolias and flowering dogwoods, were planted throughout the park.

A dedicated activity area featuring an in-ground trampoline, a balance beam and a horizontal bar was also created, fitted with a coloured synthetic surface.
